The year 1959 marks a turning point in the history of Mercedes-Benz, at which point a fundamentally revised passenger car range was presented.Under the motto “The new six-cylinder – A class of its own,” three completely redesigned models appeared as successors to the previous cylinder types:the 220 b, 220 Sb and 220 SEb models.Common to all models was the very spacious and elegant body, which was distinguished above all by the characteristic tail fins – a design element that was intended to shape the name for an entire model generation. The new model series also set standards in terms of safety, as, for example, a passenger compartment with crumple zones at the front and rear was implemented for the first time. The models also received a padded dashboard and a steering wheel with padded plate as well as the wedge-pin door locks used for the first time in this form.A total of 344,751 sedans and chassis of model series 111 and 112 were produced at the Sindelfingen plant between 1959 and 1968. The hand-assembled precision model in die-cast zinc with plastic parts is also replicated. The topic of authenticity is emphasized in the miniature model:The model is not only painted in the authentic color shade, but also features a true representation of all interior details in the high-quality decorated and flocked interior.Six parts of the model can be opened (doors, hood and tailgate). The 1:18 model is supplied in Mercedes-Benz Classic packaging, which includes a screwdriver and a glove. In this way, the model can be removed from the packaging without leaving fingerprints on the glazing or body.
